# Important Update for O‘ahu STR & NUC License Holders
As of **August 4, 2025**, the City and County of Honolulu has transitioned all **Short-Term Rental (STR) license registrations and renewals** to a new online system called **HNL Build**.
#### What This Means for STR License Holders
- All **new STR license applications and renewals** must now be completed through the **HNL Build platform**.
- To get started, you will need to **create an account**. You can access the site [here](https://www.honolulu.gov/dpp/hnl-build-create-a-new-account/).
- Going forward, **all STR license activity** will be managed exclusively through this system.
#### What This Does *Not* Apply To
The new HNL Build process does **not** apply to:
- Properties located in **resort zones**
- Properties operating under a **Nonconforming Use Certificate (NUC)**
For these, the current NUC process remains unchanged.
#### NUC Holders: Renewal Process
- The Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP) has announced it will email **direct renewal links** to all currently registered NUC holders in **August**.
- Please watch/search for this communication and **complete your renewal promptly** once received.
#### Renewal Deadline
- The renewal deadline for NUCs is **October 15**.
- Failure to renew on time may result in **late fees or loss of NUC status**.
